Fine line and minimal

Fine line and minimal

Single-needle lines, small flowers, symbols and dates. Small pieces that need a steady hand to heal cleanly.

Fine line work uses very thin needles, so there is no thick outline to hide a wobble. Every line has to be laid in one confident pass at the right depth: too shallow and it fades, too deep and it blurs.

Fine line is often the choice for a first tattoo. It’s a good one, as long as the design is planned with healing in mind. We’ll sometimes suggest making a piece slightly larger, or opening up the spaces between lines, so it still looks crisp in five years.

Placement matters

Wrists, forearms, collarbones, ankles and the back of the neck all hold fine line well. Fingers and the sides of hands fade faster because the skin there renews quickly and is used constantly; they may need a touch-up sooner.

Questions about this

Yes, it’s one of the most common first tattoos we do. It’s quick, the sensation is lighter than shading, and it’s easy to place somewhere discreet.

All tattoos soften over time. Fine line pieces done at the right depth, at a sensible size and kept out of the sun hold up well. We’ll advise on size so the lines don’t close up.

Very small text tends to blur as it heals. We’ll print your words at a few sizes so you can see the smallest size that will stay readable.

Have an idea? Let's draw it.

Send a reference and the placement on WhatsApp, or book a consultation at the studio. Either way, nothing is inked until you’ve approved the drawing.
