Laser tattoo removal

Fade or remove a tattoo you’ve outgrown, or lighten an old piece so a cover-up has room to work.

Laser removal works by breaking tattoo ink into particles small enough for the body to clear on its own. Each session lightens the tattoo a little more. It isn’t instant, but over a course of sessions most tattoos fade a great deal.

Not everyone wants a tattoo gone completely. Often the goal is to lighten an old piece enough that a new design can cover it properly. That usually takes fewer sessions and gives you far more freedom in what you choose next.

What affects the result

Between sessions

Keep the area clean and covered as advised, keep it out of the sun, and let any blisters settle on their own. Sessions are spaced weeks apart for a reason; rushing them doesn’t speed things up.

Removal or cover-up?

If you’d like something new in the same spot, a few lightening sessions and then a cover-up is often the faster route. We’ll talk you through both options at the consultation.

Laser removal questions

It depends on the ink colour, how dense and deep it is, how old it is and your skin. Lightening for a cover-up often takes far fewer sessions than full removal. We’ll give you an estimate after seeing the tattoo.

It feels like a quick series of snaps against the skin. Sessions are short, and most people find it more uncomfortable than painful.

Black and dark ink usually respond best. Some colours are stubborn and may fade rather than disappear. We’ll be clear about what’s realistic before you start.

Sessions are spaced several weeks apart so the skin can heal and the body can clear the broken-down ink. We’ll set the gap for your skin.
